JJ (Jenna) Neepin is an indigenous writer and director based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She and her sister Producer Justina Neepin have created several short films with their production company JJNeepinFilms INC. Out of 250 applicants, JJ was selected for the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television’s 2017 Apprenticeship for Women Directors program, shadowing female directors on sets and networking at several Canadian festivals, including TIFF. JJ has directed for documentary television such as APTN’s True Crime series Taken and APTN’s The Other Side. Her short films have screened at film festivals around the world including the CBC Short Doc HEADDRESS at Toronto’s 2017 Hot Docs, New Zealand’s Māori Land Festival and Montana’s Big Sky Documentary Festival. Her MTS Stories From Home film BAYLINE screened at the 2017 ImagineNATIVE festival and St John’s International Women’s Festival. In between projects and traveling, JJ enjoys reading non-fiction and Japanese manga, binge-watching Netflix shows and scrolling through Tumblr.
