About

Female. Cree. Métis. White. Writes (been to Sundance Writer’s Lab). Directs (many films, lots of festivals). Thinks (essays full of tersely cogent remarks or flamboyantly theoretical analysis). Produces (she’s experienced the labyrinth). Challenges herself and others and makes things happen. And yes, she has many awards and accolades. Known for lyrical, expressionistic imagery combined with strong storytelling skills, Todd tells truths that are haunting, funny and real.

Ms. Todd credits include award-winning documentaries, experimental work and television. She created, produced and directed Tansi! Nehiyawetan, a Cree children’s series on APTN. And, she created MyCree, a Cree language learning app. Todd’s diverse talents and unique vision lead to her creating Skye and Chang, a sci-fi series, for which she wrote, directed and produced the pilot for APTN. Skye and Chang won Best Short Drama at prestigious American Indian Film Festival in San Francisco.  Two of her short drama scripts were produced for Canadian television, and she is a sought after essayist with works published by MIT Press. And, Ms. Todd was honoured to speak at the UN on International Day of World’s Indigenous Peoples.

Currently Todd is developing a new children’s series and has two feature films in development, including the iconic Canadian novel, Monkey Beach for which she has received funding from Telefilm Canada and APTN.
