Vancouver, B.C. – Women In the Director’s Chair (WIDC) is proud to announce Teresa Alfeld as the recipient of the 2025 WIDC BANFF Fellowship, an annual honour recognizing a Canadian woman or non-binary director whose creative vision and professional promise stand out among WIDC alumni.

Based in Vancouver, Alfeld is known for her acclaimed documentary features, Doug and the Slugs and Me (CBC, 2022) and The Rankin File: Legacy of a Radical (Knowledge Network, 2019). After building a strong foundation in documentary, she’s shifting into scripted and narrative storytelling.  

Her short film Toe Pick (2024) recently premiered at the Whistler Film Festival, following her narrative debut EGGGPAA (2022), starring David Foster and Katharine McPhee.

At the BANFF World Media Festival (June 8 – 11, 2025) Alfeld will be advancing multiple scripted projects, including her original dramedy series Charlie Gauvin. The show follows a former Canadian teen pop-punk star forced to return home and relaunch her music career after losing everything in a crypto scam. Alfeld has assembled a top-tier team for the project: Stefan Brogren – Creative Producer and Series Regular; Jennica Harper – Story Consultant; Sam Feldman – Industry Consultant; Blitz Berlin – JUNO Award-winning composing trio.

Also in development is Okay, Boomer! a gonzo generational satire about a millennial gig worker who stumbles into a mayoral race, unaware of the violent forces conspiring against her. 

Alfeld is currently writing her first feature-length screenplay, Toe Pick (working title) based on her recent short. The story follows disgraced figure skating champion Gregory Li as he attempts to rebuild his life as a coach to an unlikely young student.

Alfeld is a member of the Director’s Guild of Canada (DGC,BC) and DOC Canada, and is represented by Anna Archer at Lucas Talent.

The WIDC BANFF Fellowship includes mentorship and market access during the BANFF World Media Festival. The award is part of WIDC’s longstanding commitment to supporting women and non-binary directors through training, networking, and career advancement.
