WIDC Alumni Shine at 2026 Canadian Screen Awards

With thirty-nine nominations across Film, TV and Digital categories, WIDC alumni and their work are shining at the 2026 Canadian Screen Awards.

Three alumni earned Best Direction nominations for their work in series drama:

Four alumni are being honoured with Spotlight nominations for Best Direction:

WIDC alumni are playing leading roles in Series up for Best Programs:

  • Allegiance (Nimisha Mukerji, producing director) is nominated for six awards including Best Drama Series and a Best Lead Performance for WIDC alum Supinder Wraich.
  • Everybody’s Meg (Katelyn McCulloch, producer, director) is nominated for two awards including Best Digital Short Series.

Alumni-led Feature Films:

  • 40 Acres (Lora Campbell, EP) is nominated for 10 awards including Best Feature Film. The film’s director, R.T. Thorne is also up for the John Dunning Award for Best 1st Feature.
  • Nika & Madison (Eva Thomas, writer, director, producer) is nominated for Best Editing and Best Sound Mixing.
  • Sweet Angel Baby (Melanie Oates, writer, director) is nominated for Best Lead and Best Supporting Performances.
  • Modern Whore (Lauren Grant, producer) is nominated for Best Editing and Best Original Score (doc).

Alumni-led Shorts:

  • The Muse (Wanda Nolan) is nominated for Best Short Doc.
  • Send & Receive (Dominique Keller) is nominated for Best Short Doc.

WIDC alumni are also being recognized for their talents on-screen:

  • Tricia Black – Small Achievable Goals is nominated for Best Supporting Performance and in the cast for Best Ensemble Performance. The series is also up for Best Original Music.
  • Michelle Morgan – Heartland is nominated for Best Lead Performance.
  • Mary Walsh – The Missus Upstairs is nominated for Best Lead Performance.
  • Supinder Wraich – Allegiance (as noted above).
