Nedda Sarshar is an Iranian-Canadian writer and filmmaker based in the Greater Toronto Area. Her short film idea, Unibrow, was the winner of Reel Asian’s So You Think You Can Pitch competition and a recipient of the Canada Arts Council Concept to Realization grant. Unibrow went on to become an Oscar-Qualified film, having won the Best Short Film Jury Prize at the New York International Children’s Film Festival as well as Shine Global’s Children’s Resilience Award at the Indy Short Film Festival. Nedda received the McMinnville Short Film Fest’s Outstanding Female Filmmaker Award in 2024 and the Best Director and Writer award at the Hollywood North Film Festival. Her other short Rachel and Raha is currently in the festival circuit, premiering at the Canadian Film Festival, and winning Best Short Film at the Toronto LGBT Film Festival and Best LGBT Short Film at the Toronto Short Film Festival. She is the Vice Chair of the Breakthroughs Film Festival, and a long-standing member of BIPOC TV and Film. Her poetry has been selected for the “Best Canadian Poetry 2023”. She loves telling stories about diasporas, identity crisis’ and star-crossed lovers.
